Stompers end of season test match today vs Belsize Park 25/05/2013 The 2012-13 rugby season for Stompers officially ends today following a test match against touring Belsize Park RFC from London. The tourists have four XVs teams which compete in different divisions and the club has been running since 1871 as one of the twenty-one founding member clubs of the Rugby Football Union. Some post-match entertainment following a long hard season will be taking place with Belsize Park being notorious for their 3rd half prowess. Today's opposition are also very experienced tourists and have toured for more than thirty years, touring all over North America and Europe, as well as China, South Africa, Brazil and Argentina. Stompers Tens Win Cup Final to Claim Treble Stompers Tens produced a performance which must have left many of the 15s regulars and newly crowned champions worried about their positions in the elite squad! Scrum half Matthew Alexander got scoring under way in the opening minutes of the contest, and he stepped and danced himself to a few more tries, as did the wily Tom Vernon, but the game was dominated by the sheer physicality in the contact areas shown by the forward pack. Henri Bensaria and Nicolo especially slotted in at ease in the Stompers way of playing as they tormented Overseas time and time again with their strong running and powerful carries. Italian Alessandro Frizzi also debuted for Stompers in the 39 - 7 rout of Overseas whilst a big plus from the outcome was the return of Ed Willis following a long lay off due to injury, as he completed the scoring with a last minute try before Stompers Captain on the day Antoine Bonello lifted the Tens Cup. Cisk League Trophy Presentation Info and X's team for tomorrow announced Tomorrow, at the Marsa rugby grounds, Stompers will officially crown their unbeaten title winning season by finally lifting the Cisk League trophy in the end of season presentation. The presentation will take place following a number of Xs cup finals. Stompers X's will face Overseas X's at 2 pm for the X's Cup. A positive result would produce the third honour of the season for the club. SLIEMA STOMPERS MEDITERRANEAN BANK CUP WINNERS By Rachel Galea Stompers 28 Overseas 10 Under the already scorching spring sun, Sliema Stompers met local rivals Overseas at the Marsa Rugby Pitch last Saturday to end the afternoon on a high as they lifted the Mediterranean Bank Cup after a three year trophyless period. The end result came as no surprise with Stompers being the favourites after their league success. Only just a few minutes into the game, Stompers gathered their first 3 points after Malcolm Attard slotted a penalty kick which was given for Overseas failing to roll away. Overseas had the opportunity improve their score when they were awarded a penalty for not releasing but, they failed to convert it. It was Stompers who dominated throughout most of the game with several attacks from their lineouts and scrums where Overseas were forced to direct their energies into defending. This they managed until the 28th minute, when Stompers managed to break through the defence to score the game's first try. It was team captain Sam Borg who scored the try after receiving a pass from John Ellul to increase the score to 8-0. Overseas managed to score their first try moments later after being awarded two penalties with Vince Stivala taking the quick tap penalty, passing quickly to Neil West who was the one to score the try. After halftime, Stompers returned as the dominating team once more with Andrew Camilleri scoring down the left side after receiving the ball off the back of a maul. Despite having the upper-hand, Stompers lost their concentration moments later by giving away several penalties making it easy for Overseas to shift onto the attack. Even with Overseas taking over, they still managed to throw away their chance of scoring a second try by knocking- on from a close-range penalty.Then, the misfortune of Cassar going off injured seemed to dampen their chances of them improving their score. Stompers were quick enough to take advantage of the situation by launching into three powerful attacks with the last leading to a try by Meintjes who broke through to score from a 5 metre scrum. Overseas managed to score their second try of the game after Stompers had a series of bad passing where Thompson kicked through a loose ball and followed up to score an opportunistic try. Stompers however made up for their moments of bad play by scoring the last try of the game. Attard made a break through down the left wing with Borg passing to Meintjes who scored his second try of the day to close off the game with the final score of 28-10. Sliema Stompers last won this honour in the 2009/10 season. They have twice since then reached the final against Overseas to lose and place second due to youthful inexperience and injury crises. This weekend however, Sliema Stompers proved to have come far as they ended their season by lifting the Mediterranean Cup to the cheering crowd despite being currently coachless and with three of their more experienced players in Luke Debattista, Matt von Brockdorff and Matt Mirabelli absent because of injuries and work commitments respectively. Welcome to the new Stompers Website

     Welcome to the brand new Stompers RFC website. This year saw us starting a new chapter in the Stompers history. As a committee, we made a commitment to give the club a complete overhaul to kick what should be a successful season. The committee was restructured whilst welcoming some new faces, we released our first ever calendar, we signed contracts with new sponsors and we are looking into affiliations and a change of training grounds. Apart from these major changes we knew we needed a fresh new website. Our old website which, although still looked the part, was not functioning as well as it used to and was built with outdated technology, so rather than trying to revive it we went for a brand new one.

     Together with website company Webee, the Stompers’ IT section of the committee got together to redesign a more up-to-date, user friendly web page which is easier to maintain, update and is easier on web browsers. Feel free to browse the different sections and check in from time to time for updates and news. Some parts are still being updated, but please bare with us as we get to grips with the new system. A few years ago a group of determined Edwardians fascinated by the full-contact sport of rugby decided to spice up their P.E. sessions at school and managed to convince the school sports section to start teaching and training the few initially interested in the game.

This was all possible thanks to the fact that one of the teachers was already well involved in the local rugby scene.

Soon, the few, became a complete team as the buzz quickly spread amongst peers. Over time discipline, tactics and gameplay were learnt and eventually mastered.

In the late 2000 the team joined the National League as the most upcoming rugby team which was by now aptly called Stompers RFC.
