MRFU Rugby Foundation Courses

To all members,

alt

With the introduction of a new youths section soon to Stompers, i feel i need to give the option of the MRFU's training schedule if you ever want to get involved with coaching youths now or at a later stage in your rugby career. This will help to improve your rugby playing with better knowledge about the game and what is around it in and out of the sport itself.

Please find the following all held at Marsa Clubhouse:

  • 24th and 25th February- MRFU Foundation course /Officiating course
  • 9th to 11th March- IRB/MRFU Level one introducing rugby coaching course
  • 30th and 31st of March- IRB/MRFU Level one introducing officiating course
  • 31st August till 2nd of september- IRB/MRFU level one introducing rugby coaching course.

For those who are interested and have taken a level one course, there is a level 2 course being held this year, but do not attempt without prior knowledge of the game and its principles/had a go at coaching for a while and understand the basics of it. For more info contact me direct.

For the courses above please contact Mike Beerman

Thanks

Adrian Silvester - MRFU Community Coach

First wins of 2011-12 season recorded

The boys recorded their first league win of the season yesterday over Falcons RFC with a 62-5 scoreline on a very muddy pitch at Marsa with both Billy and Camilla (Matthew Camilleri) grabbing hattricks and David Morchon Alvarez scoring his first try for Stompers (flaming asshole?).

The first try of the game came after 15 minutes from a maul off a lineout which big John Ellul put down.

The 10s also won their game against Gladiators RFC.

2000 Carlsberg Challenge

Every summer Stompers RFC are invited by Carlsberg (one of their sponsors) to decimate the Carlsberg fridges at the beer festival, and every year it ends up being an awesome night, so we though why not do the same thing on a Saturday afternoon and invite evryone to join us?

On Saturday the 12th of February we will be stocking Ryan's fridges with 2000 bottles of imported Carlsberg (that's about 83 boxes). We're meeting nice and ea...rly to get a head start, but feel free to drop by any time and join us. Super offers will be available on Carlsberg (more info soon) as well as TVs showing football and rugby all day.

Part of the money made on the day from Carlsberg sales will be donated to a very worthy cause (more info soon).

Come help us drink our own weight in beer, so we can set a bigger target next year.

Ray Elliot Cup

Ray_Elliot_2010This year’s Ray Elliot saw Stompers (winners of the 2009-2010 cup) face Kavallieri (winners of the 2009-2010 league). This is no unusual fixture in the rugby community and the Ray Elliot has been fought out by these two many a time. It was a hell of a way to open the season and proved to be a highly contested game as expected. Stompers start this season with a lot of injuries and missing players from their usual starting 15, however, as is the Stompers way, talent was replaced with talent and we still managed to give Kavallieri a run for their money. The two best teams on the island fought it out for the full 80 minutes on the field, with trys being scored at both ends, however unfortunately, Kavallieri managed to secure the win in the final play of the game when they managed to secure the final try, thus beating Stompers.Although we did not manage to retain the Ray Elliot cup this year, it was a great game of rugby, and a reminder that nothing comes easy, leading us to make a vow to win everything else this year.

Stompers Calendar

This year saw the release of our first ever Calendar. Organised by the Public Relations and Marketing sections of our committee, the Stompers boys put away their tough guy personas for one night in September to get in front of the cameras and pout. The calendar, which was inspired by the Dieux du Stade Calendar shot every year, featuring nude and semi-nude photographs of members of Stade Français, was made in order to raise funds for the club which will go to new kits and paying for training facilities. The calendar was shot at the Reflex Gym at the Radisson SAS, and photographed by 11 of the best photographers on the island, we hope that it will be successful enough to become a yearly thing. It goes on sale in December and is a steal at just €2. To get your copy or for any inquiries please do not hesitate to contact us through this website.

Welcome to the new Stompers Website

Welcome to the brand new Stompers RFC website. This year saw us starting a new chapter in the Stompers history. As a committee, we made a commitment to give the club a complete overhaul to kick what should be a successful season. The committee was restructured whilst welcoming some new faces, we released our first ever calendar, we signed contracts with new sponsors and we are looking into affiliations and a change of training grounds. Apart from these major changes we knew we needed a fresh new website. Our old website which, although still looked the part, was not functioning as well as it used to and was built with outdated technology, so rather than trying to revive it we went for a brand new one.

Together with website company Webee, the Stompers’ IT section of the committee got together to redesign a more up-to-date, user friendly web page which is easier to maintain, update and is easier on web browsers. Feel free to browse the different sections and check in from time to time for updates and news. Some parts are still being updated, but please bare with us as we get to grips with the new system. Thank you for visiting and please come back soon!
